Heating and Air Conditioning

Each suite has its own air to air heat pump system. This system operates on the same principle as your kitchen refrigerator, but on a larger scale and controls the temperature of your entire suite.

In cold weather, it extracts heat from the outside air and pumps it into your suite. In warm weather the same system reverses the operation, and pumps heat from your suite to the outside to provide air-conditioning.

The system can extract sufficient heat when the outside temperature is down to -8°C. Temperatures above this point are within the operating range of the system. This is approximately 50 weeks or 96% of the year. Temperatures below this point require auxiliary heat which is provided by electric coils in the duct system.

In Oliver the January temperatures are:
Minimum Daily average (January) -2.6°C
Minimum Daily mean (January) -5.6°C
(Climatic data is from Environment Canada – attached)

Except for auxiliary heat, the only electricity required is for pumps and fans. The system does NOT burn any fuel.
